By providing funding to build and refurbish Camp facilities, the campaign will ensure that Camp Solomon Schechter can continue to develop new Jewish leaders for many generations to come. We plan to construct a new dining hall – the central gathering space for the Camp community – along with a covered sports facility, arts classrooms, a new infirmary, quarters for medical staff and more.
How do you plan to complete the capital master plan?
With the help of the respected architectural firm, Jones & Jones, the Board and staff of Camp Solomon Schechter were able to develop a capital master plan for camp. The current campaign is focused on Phase 1, the Chadar Ochel (Dining Hall) and infrastructure. Once this is complete, we will work on plans for the next phase. Schechter’s Board and staff are dedicated to fully realizing the overall plan in a timely manner.
How much will it cost?
The current campaign will raise $9 million for Phase 1 from loyal Camp Schechter donors, alumni, community leaders and others who share our vision of helping Jewish youth grow into passionate and caring adults committed to living a meaningful Jewish life and to making the world a better place. Be sure to check The Campaign page often to see our fundraising progress!
When do you expect construction to begin?
The city sewer system was extended 3,000 ft to camp’s front gate in the fall 2016. Construction will begin on the Chadar Ochel (Dining Hall) and the infrastructure on September 1, 2017. Phase 1 of the master capital plan is expected to be complete by May 2018.
Who’s managing construction?
Civil Engineer Dan Ramras of Ramras Specialty Company is managing the project on camp’s behalf. He is working with Caron Architects and KPFF Consulting Engineers on planning and oversight. Forma Construction will be constructing the building, and Schock & Company extended the sewer line and will be installing the new infrastructure throughout camp.
There are many different options for giving, including multi-year pledges. Many of our donors are committed to making five- and six-figure gifts, spreading them out over time so they can have the biggest possible impact on the campaign while making their donation more affordable.
How can a donation to the campaign honor a loved one?
People who want to make a significant contribution that will recognize an individual, family, business or organization in perpetuity may consider naming opportunities. Your gift can lend your name to one of our major buildings like the Chadar Ochel or Mercaz Sport or to cabins, roadways and other elements of camp. Learn more about naming opportunities. And, of course, a gift of any size can always be made in honor or in memory of someone you care about. Find info to make a tribute gift when you donate.
